Reimagine RTS Transit System Redesign
Reimagine RTS was a transit system redesign initiative undertaken by the Regional Transit Service in Rochester, NY. It sought to build a new transit system from scratch, based on the changing needs of the population that were poorly met by the existing network. Originally comprising a bus network redesign, the project grew over time to include microtransit zones on the fringe of the service area, bike and scooter share, new trip planning platforms, mobile fare payment via smartphone or smartcard, and redesigned system maps and timetables.
During my time at RTS, I worked on all aspects of the project, including the development of the fixed-route bus network and microtransit zones, planning and project management for the bike share system, GIS analysis of service alternatives and public-facing materials, and community engagement at all stages. I co-led the initiative to redesign the system map and timetables to make them more modern and user-friendly, and supported efforts to integrate new trip planning software and mobile fare payment technology into the project.
The redesigned system launched on May 17, 2021.
